In order to borrow material from the library, you need a library card. A library card can be obtained from the library when borrowing for the first time but please take an ID-card along. By doing this, you are committed to the Library rules.

The Savonia-Finna search service lists all the material that the library holds and loans. There is a self service lending in Iisalmi, Microkatu, Opistotie and Varkaus Campus Libraries which customers can use.

Loan periods are mentioned below:

  • Course books for 14 days
  • Handbooks for overnight or weekend loan (handbooks can be loaned for 2 hours prior to library closing time, returned by 10 AM the next working day, these loans cannot be renewed)
  • Journals and videos for 3 days
  • Campus bikes for 1 day (in Kuopio and Varkaus, for students and staff of UAS)
  • Other material generally for 28 days

All loans (except handbooks) can be renewed 10 times, provided they have not been reserved by another customer and the borrower has not exceeded the charge limit. Loans can be renewed via Savonia-Finna or by contacting the library.

Material that is out on a loan can be reserved, reservations can be made via Savonia-Finna. Arrived items will be held for 4 days at the customer service. When the reservation has arrived you can pick up reserved book by yourself from the self-service shelf and borrow them at the self-service. If you don’t want your reservations to be placed on the self-service shelf, contact the library by email (kirjasto@savonia.fi).

If the item is available for loan at any of the libraries at Savonia, you can yourself make a Fetching service request via Savonia-Finna. This way you will get books faster, for example, from Varkaus Campus Library to Opistotie Library. Please note, this service is available only for the staff and students of Savonia University of Applied Sciences.

Opistotie handles requests only on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Varkaus handles requests only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Please contact the library if you have any questions.
