In order to apply as an exchange student, you should contact your own faculty’s International Coordinator in order to receive information on Savonia UAS’s study and placement possibilities. After you have made a decision to apply for Savonia, you must apply via the Mobility-Online application system.
Short-term studies or placement (studies under 3months & placements under 2months)NB! In order to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, Savonia will not be hosting any exchange students or trainees during the autumn semester 2020. The aim is to transfer the exchanges to 2021, if possible. (Press release of 28 May 2020).
Autumn semester: 30.04. (excluding Health Care: 31.03.)

All required documents must be uploaded into Mobilty-Online by the deadlines. You will receive information on acceptance by email.
Savonia UAS does not have its own facilities for student accommodation.

It is therefore advisable not to book accommodation or flights until you have your residence permit / visa.
EU students, who have the European Health Insurance Card, are entitled to same benefits as Finnish citizens. An additional medical and accident insurance is strongly recommended. Non – EU students, as well as EU students not in possession of the above card, must obtain private medical insurance for in-hospital and outpatient medical treatment in Finland.
You can obtain the medical and accident insurance from your home country or from an international insurance company.
Kuopio municipal student health care provides health care services for students enrolled in Kuopio’s universities of applied sciences. The aim is to promote the students’ health and welfare and to enhance their ability to study and to work in the future.
Savonia offers an orientation day in the beginning of semesters for new incoming students. Please check the orientation days in advance and aim to book your flights so that you can attend the orientation which contains a lot of useful information related to both practical and academic aspects of your stay.
Inform your arrival date and time by filling in the electronic arrival form.
In case you arrive in the beginning of the semester and you have filled in the arrival form, your student tutor will come to meet you in the Kuopio airport / bus or train station and take you to your apartment.
Kuopio can be reached by train, bus or airplane. The local bus (route number 40) operates between the airport (=lentokenttä) and city center (tori = market place) from Mondays to Fridays between 06.00-19.30. Please note that in buses you can only pay with cash or with Vilkku app available in Google and App stores.
In Savonia, students can apply for special arrangements for their studies on certain grounds. These criteria may include hearing, vision or other sensory disabilities, special learning difficulties (such as dyslexia, visual, attention deficit disorder) or mental health issues (eg panic disorder, mood problems). Special arrangements mean, for example, extra time in the exam, the possibility to take the exam in an undisturbed state or to write the exam answer on a computer at the University of Applied Sciences.
The study supervisors and / or the study psychologist together with the student are responsible for identifying the need for special arrangements. The practical implementation of the special arrangements will be the responsibility of the host department. Special arrangements shall be justified and shall be reasonable and feasible.
