To dazzle the new international students arriving to Northern Savo, Kuopio region and its partners invites international students for a Stand Up Night at Kuopio Campus. The event will be organized for the second time on September 19th. The auditorium at the University of Eastern Finland is expected to be fully booked and full of laughter. Stand Up show is free of charge.
The event will be in English and top comedians, handpicked by the Kuopio Comedy Festival, from around the world will be performing for the students, in-cluding:
Orlando Baxter (USA)
Baxter entered the Boston comedy scene in 2005 and was quickly established as one of the area’s hottest young comics. His fresh perspective and unique re-latability soon made this former high school teacher a fan favorite and led to a string of finalist positions in a number of contests and festivals all over the world including NBC’s ‘Stand Up for Diversity’, Boston Comedy Festival, Mon-treux Comedy Festival, Johannesburg International Comedy Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Melbourne Comedy Festival. Orlando currently tours across the world performing at clubs, colleges and festivals at home and over-seas. In 2016, Orlando made his late night TV debut on the Conan show on TBS.
James Lórien MacDonald (CAN)
MacDonald is Finland's only Canadian, queer, English-speaking, transgender stand-up comedian. Is it a burden, you might ask. Whether he is taking his solo shows around Europe or hosting Helsinki's Feminist Comedy Night or putting out his weekly podcast “How Bad Was That?” with Ali Jahangiri, he is making audiences think and laugh with his improvisational style.
Ali Jahangiri (FIN)
Jahangiri is one of the biggest stand-up stars in Finland. Ali is also a radio host and a TV star. If you are looking for a jolly stand-up comedian, it is not Ali. Ali is an intelligent and fierce social debater and a comedian whose gigs create a sense of danger. Ali will be the MC (master of ceremony), in this evening’s stand-up show.
The International Stand Up night is free of charge for international students. The tickets and more information will be available in autumn for the students of UEF, Savonia, Savo Consortium for Education and Ylä-Savo Vocational College.
